​Cofounder of Soilbuild, Lim Chap Huat, started his construction business in 1976 with a mere two years of experience, a civil engineering diploma, S$25,000 in capital and two business partners.
Almost half a century has passed and the company continues to thrive under the next generation of family leaders. Beyond construction, the company has expanded into property development—one of its notable achievements is the awardwinning development, Solaris @ onenorth—and managing its own real estate investment trust (REIT).
With almost four million square feet of business space in Singapore under its management, the company made a decision in April 2021 to privatise the REIT, in order to improve the trust’s performance.
To accomplish the feat, the management worked handinhand with UOB, its key bank since 1983. UOB eased the process of privatisation through a comprehensive suite of advice and financing, setting them on the path for sustained future growth. SOR (Singapore Swap Offer Rate) and SIBOR (Singapore Interbank Offered Rate) will soon be discontinued. They will no longer be available for use to compute interest on your property loans.
